When you have a cavity, the decay needs to be removed from your teeth which will leave behind a hole. A filling is placed inside this hole that hardens to create a protective barrier. This will prevent the decay from spreading to other parts of the tooth.
The entire process will be fairly short depending on how long the cavity was left untreated. The longer they’re left alone, the more damage they can cause, so it’s best to get them taken care of right away. That’s why it’s important to come in at least twice per year for a checkup.
